The Lemon Society of Philadelphia, the Young Professional Association of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF), will host their inaugural event, a happy hour, on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 6-9PM at Rembrandt’s Restaurant, 741 North 23rd Street. A portion of the proceeds, $1 for each drink purchased, will go directly to ALSF. The Lemon Society of Philadelphia was created to mobilize young professionals to support ALSF’s efforts to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer research and treatments. The Lemon Society of Philadelphia hopes to raise $5,000 by the end of the year to provide care packages for 200 children and their families undergoing cancer treatment. Philadelphia joins New York City as one of the first markets to host Lemon Societies benefitting ALSF.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $25 million towards fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 100 research projects nationally.
